Ambedo Holdings — New York City

Your building is
covered.

We engineer, permit, install, and remove sidewalk sheds and pipe scaffolding across the five boroughs — so your facade work moves forward and the sidewalk below stays open.

What we do

Two things, done exceptionally well.

We are specialists, not a general contractor that dabbles. Sidewalk sheds and pipe scaffolding are all we build — which is why every job is engineered, filed, and installed to code the first time.

Sidewalk sheds

Heavy-duty and light-duty overhead protection for facade repair, roof work, demolition, and unsafe-condition orders. Engineered decks, lit underside, clear pedestrian path maintained throughout.

Pipe scaffolding

Tube-and-clamp access scaffold built to the shape of your building — setbacks, cornices, courtyards, and light wells included. Tied, braced, and inspected on a documented schedule.

Drawings & permits

Sealed shop drawings, DOB NOW filings, permit renewals, and sign-off at removal. You get one point of contact and a paper trail that holds up on inspection day.

The new standard

The city changed the shed.

We already build it. New York's updated rules move the city away from the dark green tunnel: more light beneath, more headroom, and colors that don't make a block feel abandoned. We build to the current standard from day one — no retrofits later.

  • Higher clearance so entrances, storefront signage, and ground-floor windows stay visible.
  • Brighter underside. Continuous LED runs at code-required light levels, not a bulb every third bay.
  • Approved color palette beyond hunter green, matched to your building where the rules allow.
  • Shorter permit clock. We plan the removal date at the same time we plan the install.
How it goes

From first call to sign-off.

Most owners hear about us the week an inspection report lands. Here is exactly what happens next.

Step 01

Survey

We walk the frontage, measure the sidewalk, note vaults, cellar doors, hydrants, and trees, and photograph the facade condition.

Step 02

Drawings & filing

Sealed drawings and the DOB NOW permit application, with your work permit and insurance certificates assembled in one package.

Step 03

Install

Crews build overnight or off-peak where required. Pedestrian path stays open, lighting is energized the same day.

Step 04

Maintain & remove

Documented inspections, graffiti and damage repair, permit renewals — then a clean removal and sign-off when the work is done.

Compliance

Violations are expensive. Sheds are not.

An unpermitted or non-conforming shed generates ECB violations, stop-work exposure, and a hearing calendar you did not plan for. Every Ambedo installation is filed, inspected, and documented so the shed is the part of your project nobody has to worry about.

Questions

What owners ask us first.

How fast can a shed go up?
Once the permit is issued, a typical rowhouse or mid-block frontage is up in a single night. Larger corner buildings and staged installations run two to four nights. The long pole is almost always filing, not construction — which is why we start drawings the day you call.
What does a sidewalk shed cost?
Pricing is driven by linear feet of frontage, duty rating, height, and how long the shed stays up. We quote install, monthly rental, and removal as three separate line items so you can see exactly what a schedule delay costs before you commit.
Do I need a shed if I only have a facade inspection?
If your FISP report files an unsafe condition, overhead protection is required immediately and must stay until the condition is repaired and re-filed. If the report is SWARMP, you have a repair deadline — we can help you plan the shed around the work rather than paying rental while nothing happens above.
Who handles the permit and the renewals?
We do. We file in DOB NOW under our license, track the expiration, and renew before it lapses. You will get a copy of every permit and inspection record for your building file.
Will the shed block my tenants' storefronts?
No. We design around entrances, awnings, cellar doors, and signage, and the new shed standard gives us more clearance to work with. Retail frontages get lit fascia and signage cut-outs so ground-floor tenants stay visible.
Can you take over a shed another contractor installed?
Often, yes. We inspect the existing structure, tell you honestly whether it can be re-permitted under our license or has to come down, and price both paths before you decide.
